Read from the Pytes BMS
| Measurement | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| State of charge (%) and remaining capacity (Ah) | The real figure from the BMS, not the inverter’s estimate, which can drift by several percent. |
| Pack voltage and current | Shows charge and discharge power live, so you see what the battery is actually doing. |
| Each cell voltage | A cell that runs higher or lower than its neighbours is the first sign of imbalance. |
| Cell and BMS temperatures | Useful in a garage or loft, where winter cold reduces the charge current the battery accepts. |
| State of health and cycle count | Tells you how the battery is ageing, and gives you evidence if you ever need a warranty claim. |
| Status, protections and alarms | Over-voltage, under-voltage, temperature and current protections, read as the BMS reports them. |
The exact list depends on the model and the firmware version of your battery. Before we ship your box, we test it on Pytes hardware; if you tell us your model when you order, we test that one first.
Four ways to look at it
The screen on the box
State of charge in large digits, voltage, current and power, then the status line (charging, discharging or idle), health, cycles and temperature. Below, the address of the dashboard on your network.
The local dashboard
Open http://moniwatt.local from a phone or computer on the same Wi-Fi. You get the live values, the cell table with the highest and lowest cell marked, and the day’s curve. It is protected by a password you choose during setup.
Home Assistant and MQTT
Point the box at your MQTT broker and the sensors appear in Home Assistant on their own. Details on the Home Assistant page.
The optional cloud dashboard
If you want to check the battery from work or on holiday, link the box to your account. It keeps the history for up to three years, sends an e-mail if the box stops reporting, and lets you export CSV files. Nothing is sent out unless you switch this on.
What it does not do
MoniWatt for Pytes never writes to your battery: no settings changed, no charge limits pushed, no firmware touched. It does not replace the link between your battery and your inverter either; that one stays exactly as your installer wired it. The box sits on the side, on the console port, and listens.
Updates
New firmware versions install over Wi-Fi from the dashboard. If a Pytes firmware update on the battery side changes something, we adapt ours and you get it the same way.
